Nainital, the haven of scenic locales, is set in a valley containing a pear-shaped lake, and surrounded by mountains. The Whistling Woods Luxury Cottages rest on its picturesque hilly slopes. These residential blocks are set into the contours of the hillside and fully meet functional as well as aesthetic needs. In an attempt to retain as much of the natural setting as possible, the hillside has not been cut into much and there is a subtle convergence of the terrain and the built spaces. Winding pathways and steps traverse the site’s heights and provide never ending views into the valley.

ECOLOGICAL CONCERNS
This project deals with ecological concerns like rainwater harvesting, minimizing deforestation and replenishing the existing tree cover by planting orchards. These trees planted into the already green setting, enhance the natural ambience of the hillside. On these slopes the low density of buildings means there is lot of open land which can be landscaped as per existing contours and here are the planted orchards of fruit trees like apple, apricot, peach, plums and lemon.
